GB Energy is committed to working with the local community through formal and informal consultation, local jobs, and benefit funds.

We engage local residents via monthly visits to both Golden Beach and Longford, through regular online and more formal information sessions where project subject matter experts talk to various aspects of the project, and with local supply chains to address social and economic impacts.

Our project will provide:

• Local Employment: Hiring local workers during the construction and operation phases.

• Procurement: Prioritising local suppliers, contractors, and businesses to work on the project with us.

• Benefit Funds: Allocating funding for local infrastructure, events and community initiatives.

We also work with local schools to talk about the amazing careers that can be found in the energy sector and participate in Wellington Shire initiatives that help young people to realise their ambitions.

GB Energy recognises the importance of Country, culture and cultural heritage to Traditional Owners and is committed to respectful engagement with the Gunaikurnai people.

We are working with the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC), with the aim of ensuring that Traditional Owner perspectives are appropriately considered as the project progresses. This includes participating in GLaWAC’s cultural heritage training programs and other immersive experiences on Gunaikurnai lands.

There will be minimal impacts on commercial and recreational fishing, our project has a small footprint on the ocean floor with a 500 metre safety and protection zone around the project area. The infrastructure that sits on the ocean floor may act as an artificial reef, providing new habitat for fish and other marine species. In some areas, this has led to increased biodiversity and stronger local fish populations. This has also been observed on oil and gas platforms in Bass Strait.

We have been discussing impacts with local fisheries directly and through the Lakes Entrance Fishermen’s Cooperative (LEFL) and we welcome discussions with any local fishing groups about the project.
