GB Energy is committed to working with the local community through formal and informal consultation, local jobs, and benefit funds.

We engage local residents via monthly visits to both Golden Beach and Longford, through regular online and more formal information sessions where project subject matter experts talk to various aspects of the project, and with local supply chains to address social and economic impacts.

Our project will provide:

• Local Employment: Hiring local workers during the construction and operation phases.

• Procurement: Prioritising local suppliers, contractors, and businesses to work on the project with us.

• Benefit Funds: Allocating funding for local infrastructure, events and community initiatives.

We also work with local schools to talk about the amazing careers that can be found in the energy sector and participate in Wellington Shire initiatives that help young people to realise their ambitions.

GB Energy recognises the importance of Country, culture and cultural heritage to Traditional Owners and is committed to respectful engagement with the Gunaikurnai people.

We are working with the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC), with the aim of ensuring that Traditional Owner perspectives are appropriately considered as the project progresses. This includes participating in GLaWAC’s cultural heritage training programs and other immersive experiences on Gunaikurnai lands.

GB Energy is very conscious of the importance of commercial and recreational fishing to the local community and is committed to engaging with fishing interests throughout the project.

The completed offshore infrastructure will have a small footprint on the seabed and will be surrounded by a 500-metre safety and protection zone. The infrastructure will not be visible above the waterline once construction is complete.

Offshore structures can also provide hard surfaces that may be colonised by marine organisms, creating additional habitat for some marine species. Similar effects have been observed around offshore oil and gas infrastructure, including in Bass Strait.

GB Energy has been engaging directly with local fisheries and through the Lakes Entrance Fishermen’s Cooperative to understand potential impacts and opportunities. We welcome ongoing discussions with commercial and recreational fishing groups as the project progresses.
